Are Bloggers selfish?

Mr. Kiasu feels that Bloggers are selfish. He claims that people are resorting to all sorts of dirty tricks to attract traffic. Although I agree with him partly, I have a different opinion on the way people market their blogs. Given that so many blogs crop up every day in the Blogosphere, one has to do so kind of “promotion” / “marketing” to ensure that his Blog reaches the right audience. However such gimmicks can only help in bringing in first time visitors. In the long term, readers will revisit these the blogs only if the quality is good. Hence these “marketing gimmicks” / “cheap tricks” may not be sustainable in the long run.

BTW what exactly is long run? John Maynard Keynes said – “In the long run we're all dead”.

  • In the initial stage, definitely bloggers are selfish.. since they want to be recognised. Probably, if they hv the quality to stay in the race, they will succeed. If the energy is over, after couple of months.. the quality may get affected and in turn traffic.

good that, you know the tricks and maintaining the traffic.

  • @Ram,
I agree that it takes lot of time, effort and passion to maintain a quality blog. Bloggers do have their own work schedules and hence might not be able to contribute regularly. Other bloggers are wise enough to understand these phases as they themself go thru such phases. Sometimes few friends ask me (jokingly), as to why I have not updated my blog on a particular day. I tell them that I'm not a newspaper which comes out promptly on every morning.

    @ Tan
Thanx 4 pointing out the error. I have changed it now.

  • Nothing wrong with attracting traffic. After all, you aren't doing anything illegal to have some shameless publicity.

As u talk about ppl might not visit the non-quality blogs in the long run, in the longer run, wonder how many are gonna blog? 3 yrs back - less than 10% of the current bloggers wd have heard about blogging and see the number now. Sometime in the future, blogging wd be out-fashioned.
