Communicasia 2005
I had been to Communicasia 2005 earlier this week. Communicasia is the largest trade gathering of its kind for the Communication Industry in Asia. I was told that there were more than 60,000 visitors for the show. Handset manufacturers like Sony Ericsson wanted to cash in on the Star Wars craze and hence used models clad in Star Wars outfits to woo the crowd. IP Phones and IP television are touted as the next big thing. Singapore government might grant licenses for IP phones pretty soon.
Handset makers used hot models to promote their latest models. This might have been a reason for the high footfalls. Nokia was conspicuous by its absence. Came to know that Nokia doesn’t prefer the clutter at this show and hence hosts an exclusive show to showcase its range of offerings.

Asia’s growing power in the technology industry was reaffirmed when Siemens decided to sell its handset business to BenQ, a Taiwanese electronics firm. BenQ used to do contract manufacturing for Motorola and this business has suddenly dried up. BenQ hopes that this acquisition will help in boosting its handset business. BTW BenQ stands for Bringing Enjoyment and Quality to Life.

Kaps,
I am a regular visitor to your blog. But this is my first comment here. Some time back you have commented about presentation news articles in TOI and ET. I have written a Greasemonkey(an extension of Firefox browser) script for fixing that problem. checkout my blog http://saravan.blogspot.com for more details.

is funny that Nokia thinks of itself as an exclusive away-from-the clutter kind of brand - it seems to me they have some of the most basic, popular, least common denominator models! the extent to which companies will go to create the right image for themselves...

I've read abt tht BenQ buys Siemens news too..
Nowadays not only these phones (Read.. BenQ) are Cheap, but they are packed with features and of high quality too!
The mobile handset industry is going for a wild run nowadays! Here in Aus, the cameraphone is a standard!!!

Thanks for BenQ details.
Who knows how the scene would be in the next few years the way cellphone technology is growing now.
Was the that the true reason why Nokia pulled out.? What clutter are they talking about.?

IP phones are definitely growing to be the next "IN" thing!
My company has assigned a few people specially to concentrate on that area!
