Why do Indians always ask about other’s salary?

Bharath says that Indians are among a rare breed who are curious to know about a fellow Indian’s salary. After reading this article each of us can relate to some similar incidents, which we might have come across in our life.

  • Few years back, a friend of mine won a competition for sales target, to watch the world cup final at the Lords. I asked him what motivated him, his response was "watching a match at the lords".

Oh btw, one of my cherished dreams is to watch a match at the lords.

In this Accenture situation, I think they are working on "group psychology".You know, where each team memeber encourages, to get more referrals

  • Nice set of links kaps, may borrow your linkin park style sometime :)
Oh yes, that bit on salary questions - annoying but so many feel it's perfectly alright to ask and tell... as with many other topics, which other cultures might deem too personal *sigh*

  • @Balaji,
Vasanthi's comment section is working. Pls try once again.

Glad to know that it was useful

Companies are devising innovative ways to attract talent. few years ago IT companies offered DVD players and cell phones for employee referrals.
This trend has become well established in the Indian context.

My blog is like a shelter. If it rains outside, just take refuge here.

Feel free to add a link in your blog. I also hate when others ask about salaries. Maybe they don't have other things to talk about.

  • read the one about asking salary of other people. probably a rude question to a total stranger. however am of the opinion that it is immaterial whether one answers or ignores. why do the folks take umbrage at being asked ? it is not as though the asker wants your money :)

  • Excellent links Kaps...Its a real pleasure reading your posts...KIU !!

PS: Since am new here, is there a particular day when u do this linkin' stuff ? and pls dont tell me what RSS and stuff like that is so that I dont miss out..I lead a very uncomplicated life and I'd prefer that it stays this way :-)

By Anonymous Jupe, at 1:11 PM

  • @Bharath,

I have not heard Linkin Park till now. I just use their name :-)

People have different opinions on this. I don't like people who ask my pay. If they ask me, I'm forced to answer the same.

Thanks for dropping by. Normally I try to do this every weekend. I have also started contributing to DesiPundit (www.desipundit.com) and hence you can find lot of good links there. You are one of the fortunate few who lead an uncomplicated life. I can't even imagine it. Maybe I'm addicted to this complicated life.
