Power of a Testimonial / Customer Reference

This firm boasts a customer list that includes the likes of Pavarotti, Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, Ronald Reagan, Tony Blair, Boris Becker and Kylie Minogue. The firm belongs to the fashion industry (I chose this for want of a better word). Yet most of you might have heard not about it. It is not some hotshot fashion house in Paris. Last week, there was a travel show on TV and the episode featured Hong Kong. The host said that your trip to Hong Kong is not complete without a visit to this place. Which company are we talking about?

Sam’s Tailor

This travel show was not the first time I’m hearing about Sam’s Tailor. Sam’s Tailor is an Indian tailoring outfit, which has been in existence for more than 50 years. They are experts in suits and they are also known for the 24-hour suit. Their shop is listed in all the HK travel guides. There are many such Indian tailors in HK but none of them are as famous as Sam’s Tailor. Their shop prominently displays the photos of their celebrity customers. These promotions might be working well for Sam’s Tailor.

Chennai’s Fortune Tellers

Back home, I’m reminded of the fortunetellers who adorn the pavements of Panagal Park and Pondy Bazaar in Chennai. They usually have a parrot and have lots of celebrity photos (mainly politicians & film stars) just to prove that these celebrities are their customers. I doubt whether these celebrities are really part of their clientele. This must some creative Photoshop work by one of the photo studios.

  • Ha ha.....all these astrologers are one funnny lot..i have to supress my laughter when they are making such predictions...

    but then why a re people who have a famous clientele supposed to be good at their work?..what if that famous clientele had lousy sense of style....

    One of MY friend's famous complaints is this...a good husband and a good tailor are hard to find!!!

  • monu, I guess the solution is to find a good tailor and marry him :)

    kaps, your mention of the parrot josiyam guys reminds me of another josiyam type - the boomboom maadu - havent seen these guys anywhere else...

  • @Monu,
    I think it is easier to find good tailors. You can pass on Charu's suggestion to your friend

    @Me,
    I have been to Marina Beach, but I hvn't taken snaps with the cutouts of the film stars.
    BTW I'm from 600 033.

    @Charu,
    I hvn't heard of this Boom Boom Maadu Josiyam. Can you elaborate?

  • Ask him if he can make a shirt for Salmaan khan..

  • jhaven you seen these guys who walk aorund streets with a cowc- usually wiht painte dhorns - and they stop in front of your house and ask for money - and they also tell you the boom boom maadu josiyam - or palan as it is known! of course, you need to live in a house as opposed to an apartment to experience this....but dont think there are too many of them left in Madras - havent seen them ages now...

  • This reminds me of the 'sugarcane juicewalla' near flora fountain in Mumbai. This guy has a photo with sunil gavaskar and there is a story behind it. When sunny used to practise during his teen he used to have the juice from this pavement shop. Lot of mumbai citizens I believe know this story. :D.

    For that matter even haricut saloons in AP have this fetish for filmstar photos. Almost all saloon owners boast photos with Chiru and the likes of Tollywood.

  • Sam's Tailor - Interesting indeed. But are these photos true? Did these celebrities really had their clothes tailored at Sam's? I am not sure.

    Chennai's Fortune Tellers - I hope our people used their brains ( I mean the people who go to these fortune telling - Jokers).
