Tracking past RBI Governors
I was tracking the career paths of former RBI Governors. Their careers have received a big boost after they retired from RBI. Take the case of three of the recent RBI Governors. Manmohan Singh became a Finance Minister and eventually ascended the PM throne. C Rangarajan has held the Governor post in 2 Southern States (Andhra Pradesh & Tamilnadu). Bimal Jalan is now a Rajya Sabha MP. It is just a matter of time before Bimal Jalan also gets into a much more prominent role. Is it a mere coincidence that these RBI Governors have become hot properties? I don’t think so. All three of them deserved every bit of it. So where is Y V Reddy headed?
I was fortunate enough to study under a great Economics Prof in B-School. There were rumours that he even turned down the post of RBI Governor so that he can continue his academic career.

I didnt know about the RBI link. But, I read that economists are more capable of foreseeing things at a nation-level than people in other professions. (business week had run an article on the best economists in the world ... I could not find the link now)
If this is the trend, I am happy. Clearly education is gaining importance in the political circle.

Kaps,Good post.Economists are realistic in terms of decision making and they come with an amazing ability to see things at macro level and long term perspective.
