Fedex Ad pokes fun at MBA’s
Maverick posted about the latest Fedex TV Ad. The conversation that takes place in the ad is reproduced below

A recent FedEx television advertisement features a young man on his first day. His boss tells him "we're just in a bit of a jam. All this has to get out today."

A recent FedEx television advertisement features a young man on his first day. His boss tells him "we're just in a bit of a jam. All this has to get out today."
"Yeah, ah ... I don't do shipping," he replies.
"Oh no, no, it's very easy," she answers.
"We use Fedex.ca. Anybody can do it."
"You don't understand, I have an MBA."
"Oh, you have an MBA?"
"Yeah ..."
"In that case, I'll have to show you how to do it."
The voice over nails it with: "Fedex.ca makes shipping so fast and easy ... even an MBA can do it."

Fedex itself employs quite a few MBA’s and I guess some of them would have been involved in the making of this ad. Fedex has a reputation of coming out with some good ads and this one would probably not go into that list.
The Vermont Cynic says that the MBA degree no longer carries the same value, which it carried few years ago. Indicators like the number of MBA applicants and also the job prospects prove that the demand for the degree is on the decline.
One of my profs used to say that MBA stands for Money Before All. To Abhijit Bhaduri, MBA stands for Mediocre But Arrogant and his book by the same name is going to be released in a week’s time.

Bang on. Im passing around this ad to give a real dose of what we all need to know. I almmost cringe everyday at the arrogance shown by some of my peers. The feeling that "Im God" creeps out of nowhere, and suprisingly fast. Thanks for the link!

I think MBA really gives perspective into whole lot of things... If one has experience backing him up and then an MBA degree, am sure he wud rock... And if that be the case, why not Money Before All... Ofcourse, they shud deserve it before desiring.
From the creative aspect, the ad was funny !!!

Hey
The basic point is it "connects" with the audience, many of whom think of all MBAs as arrogant snobs and wins it.
There are several of those managerial types that do not know or would not want to know why and how to courier! And it makes a point there too!

an MBA should be an added qualification to be a better manager and not the only qualificaiton which can make people call you an arrogant manager

hey kaps,
I guess there is a joke goin around about MBAs not being capable of understanding tech details. in my company managers were made fun of by senior engineers regarding their inability to understand details.
so how is ur quest going on.. please feel free to ask me anything regarding the MBA process. I'll be glad to help

Jayan,
Do we need a mathematical equation to prove that MBA's earn more? Just kidding!
Killer MGK,
Welcome back.....i didn't know about this ad earlier.
Monu,
I agree that this must hv been created by somebody who's boss might be an MBA.
Kamesh,
Thanks
Govar,
I hv also come across some arrogant people. some of the corporates also prefer such arrogant / aggressive people and that is the reason for such behaviour.
Somu,
I second your thoughts on the fact that the MBA is an enriching experience.
Gautam,
Thanks for the book review. I don't know when I can get to read the book.
Divya,
Lot of people feel that MBA's are arrogant......especially some of the experienced folks in the various companies which recruit such MBA's. But they continue to recruit such MBA :-) I doubt whether somebody will not know how to courier something. I can atleast understand the point that they may not want to be seen doing such mundane stuff.
Vasanthi,
yeah....it should be an additional qualification
Bharath,
Tech companies normally put BE + MBA in such roles and these guys are better positioned to handle the technical details.
