Tamil Kavidhai (Poetry) Competition and related accusations
Sunday morning couldn’t have begun on a better note. Few comments on my blog made me realize that I had won the third prize in the Kavidhai Poatti (poetry competition) organized by Narayanan. Kudos to Narayanan Sir for organizing such an event. The participants showed loads of enthusiasm and lot of the kavidhais were of very high standard. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and support. Congrats to Suresh and Rajkumar for bagging the first and second prizes respectively.
One of the anonymous comments that I received for my Tamil post had this to say: - “Aren’t u ashamed of being a Tam as this is the only post you have made in Tamil?”
Time is finite and I don’t have the luxury of maintaining two blogs (one each in English and Tamil). Although I intend to start a separate blog in Tamil, I don’t know the timeframe by which I can venture into it. I don’t need to prove my affinity for Tamil to people like you. People who know me offline know about my affinity for the language. Just because somebody blogs in English, he/she can’t be termed as a traitor of his/her mother tongue. Although there are many good tools available, I’m still not comfortable with the user interface and hence I’m reluctant to start a Tamil blog. Are you a blogger masquerading under an anonymous name? Didn't you know that many of the bloggers who participated in this competition were blogging in Tamil for the first time?

btw...there is news that cisco mite takeover nokia? any thots?
By capriciously_me, at 2:54 PM
CM,
I value comments and criticism....I also felt that others should also know about this.
Cisco sells routers and switches whereas Nokia is into mobile phones. To me the synergies are not very obvious. Let's wait and see.

Well I havent posted anything in Tamil till date.. But none of them were in just English alone..
And these are pretty much the only two languages I know..
For Ex.. I wont blog in tamil.. bcoz i think the tamil spellings are shitty in the interface and I am able to read tamil in english faster than tamil in tamil

@Ferrari,
If it goes on at this rate Ramadoss is going to file Defamation suit on all of us.
@Thuglak,
Thanks for the nice words. Since there is a good response i intend to blog in tamil as well.
@IOIIO,
Danks. I also feel that it will take sometime for us to understand the nuances of the english to tamil font conversion fundas.

Kaps! Congrats!
Though! I understand your schedule and the time frame u r maintaining (actually dedicating) to blog.
But still one post per week or month in tamil that too an eight lined poetry would fill the gap and mute ur critics.
Its my suggestion!
Meanwhile ur kavithai on Nambikkai itself says that u r having an eye on tamil blogging.

Will definitely squeeze in some time for Tamil posts.
@Monu,
Thanks
@Visithra,

Tamil blogs or not, we're all fullblooded Tamilans! People must understand the difference between comunication ideas and communicating the culture. Its not hard to start a Tamil blog, but there is always the problems of getting the typeset, fonts and the problem of readers viewwing the corect font.
By gP, at 6:17 PM
By the by, congrats on the prize!
By gP, at 6:18 PM
Congrats-prize on your first tamil blog is great.

I for one feel no guilt in talking about Tamil in English.... in fact doing the same thing even now. I after all, am bilingual and need to appreciate that. Those of us who live outside Tamil Nadu know the value of being bilingual. To tell you the truth, my affinity to Tamil has increased ever since I landed in Britain, so much so that I constantly keep talking about classical Tamil poetry to most of my parangi friends. They know very little about Tamil culture, and so seem fairly surprised about the wealth we guys come with! So keep it up dude! The effort is always worth it.
Another thing, I find it terribly difficult to read Tamil trasliterated in the Roman script. I'm rather comfortable reading Tamil in Tamil (fonts and encoding problems apart)!

kaps,
Thootruvaar thootruvar... Potruvaar Potruvar !
And he/she did not even have the guts to put in his/her name...
Motta kadhudhaasi thaaney... Kizhuchu podunga !!!
I guess such criticisms are part of every individual who shares a lil bit of celebrity status...
And congrats on your achievement !!
By Woodooz, at 9:03 PM
And btw, even I blogged in Tamil for the first time just for this potti... The anon commenter is most welcome to drop by and vent his spleen .. heh heh !
By Woodooz, at 9:05 PM
Kaps,
Congratulations. Ignore Mr(or Ms.) anonymous. I think the success of this competition was that it got a lot of English bloggers to write in Tamil and hats off to Mr.Narayanan for that. And well done!
By Unknown, at 10:43 PM
kaps, congrats on winning the prize. it was well-deserved.
and these kind of anon comments deserve to be given the silent treatment :)
By Balaji, at 2:42 AM

@GP, Vasanthi, Somu, Uma, Balaji, Robbie, Ram & Me,
Thanks a lot
@Ananth,
Thanks for dropping by
@Anand,
My affinity also got increased after moving to S'pore. My grudge being that local Indians are more passionate about the language whereas the expat Indians don't have the same amount of love and affection for the language. I would prefer to write in Tamil font instead of writing Tamil in English font.
By Kaps, at 7:09 PM
kaps,
Congrats da.Think this must be the comment of a burning stomach, which lost the competition.Vittu thallu...
By jack, at 1:16 AM
hi!!!
more than that ,
it is necessary for one to start typing in tamil to keep the tamil spirit alive
do it using http://quillpad.in/tamil
it will peacefully help in converting your script to tamil by just typing in english you can have fun peacefully :)

Guys just FYI there is a Tamil website called www.tamilthatha.com/forum and they are conducting online kavithai & Nagaichuvai competition. Interested people can participate and win prizes.
