Is there a glass-ceiling @ Infy?

Infy announced that it airlifted its employees in Houston in order to save them from the Rita hurricane. Does this put pressure on other IT firms to disclose how they reacted to the crisis? It just goes to prove that Infy is the leader when it comes to PR / media management.

The Indian Business magazines frequently raise the question about the so-called ‘glass-ceiling’ at Infy. The appointment of (old timers like) S D Shibulal as the Sales head of Infy probably gives the indication that such a glass ceiling exists.

The sudden exodus of lot of high profile people (Hema Ravichander, Basab Pradhan, Raman Roy & Vivek Paul to name a few) from the IT majors can be partly attributed to the IT slowdown and also to the individual’s urge to venture out on their own.

  • slowdown? Nobody leaves a comfortable position during the downturn. People jump the ship only when there are ample greener pastures.

  • Regarding Infy's media management prowess, I have always maintained that it is not enough for someone to be honest, it is equally important that the world knows and thinks so. Infy has excelled at this image creation and maintenance.

  • @Shashikant,
    I meant slowdown because the margins seem to be dropping and it is not attractive as it used to be few years ago. Some say that it is becoming more commoditized. I also feel that people will not move out during a downturn. Another point is that, if u venture out during a downturn and if the venture bombs, u can always return to the earlier job when the economy picks up.

    @Thennavan,
    Rightly said Thennavan.

  • I agree with you, there is a glass cieling at Infy and in Wipro too. Nandan is young, so ambitious young managers have to look elsewhere.
