Kollywood stormed by Income Tax sleuths

Although it looks like a scene from the movie Chellamey, this is for real. Income Tax officials have conducted raids in the houses some of the leading Kollywood stars.

Apart from the residences of music composers Rehman and Yuvan Shankar Raja, the houses of artistes Trisha, Sneha, Vikram and Vijay and film producer Oscar Ravichandran were raided by Income Tax officials.

IT raids are nothing new to Kollywood. IT Dept. tries to make its presence felt by raiding the residences of leading stars from time to time. Even Rajini was a victim of one such ‘raid’ (it was later clarified that it was a survey and not a raid) earlier this year.

  • All they'll want are some sweet smiles from the actresses and autographs from the guys! Thats it..off they go back to their offices and then blame the media for distorting issues i.e rename surveys to raids!

  • Rajini was a self-confessed tax evader. He made the confession in his pre-election speech in '96 when he voiced his support for the DMK.

  • hmm
    what about politicians ;)

  • I fail to understand why they have to raid all the actors at the same time. Were they expecting Vijay to tip Vikram off or Trisha to hide documents for Sneha?! Talk about publicity stunt.

  • I applaud the IT dept for doing this. I hope this is not a farce.

    I don't understand why you wrote 'Rajini was a victim'...I would have thought..'Rajini's house was also raided'.

    I think you didn't mean to say that Rajini was innocent.!

    The people who pay their taxes are the working class, where the tax is deducted at source. All other evade it ..or atleast 99.9 Percent.!!

  • @Ravi,
    i think they want much more than that

    @Bala,
    i don't remember his statement. thanks for reminding

    @Ganesh,
    I want to be cautious when referring to politicians

    @J'adore,
    If raids are conducted one after one, the other actors would take preventive measures to hide their assets, cash, jewellery etc.
    Hence raids are normally conducted simultaneously

    @Venkitu Sir,
    Thanks for pointing out. I was in 2 minds before mentioning the word 'victim'. I am not saying that Rajini is innocent.
    I do agree that the salaried people pay taxes promptly bcoz of TDS. it is the business community and the film stars who evade taxes.

  • This should be a regular affair, if we observe the way media is screaming about the remuneration / earnings of all this high profile stars... Nothing wrong in it, when so much of money is in stake for the GOVT.
