English classics to make a comeback in SMS format

There is a move to make English classics available to British youth and to reflect the changing times, the classics will now be offered in SMS format. How will the authors react had they been alive now?

It may well turn Bleak House into BleakHse - but will it make Shakespeare turn in his grave?

A mobile phone service plans to lure students to its tariffs by translating the plots and quotations of the classics into simple text messages.

'To Be Or Not To Be' from Shakespeare's Hamlet becomes: 2b? Nt2b? = ??? while 'A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse' from Richard III translates as Ahors,",m'kngdom 4''.

  • Gd one. I think it's gimmicky but an interesting way to make some more money. I doubt it'll make a huge impact. I...umm, sorry. Didn't realise nobody asked me. Good bye. Cheers. Nice day. Sunshine. Jeez!

  • The reasons given for the project (easy recall etc) are ridiculous. There is a lack of sense, sensibility and sensitivity about it, which strikes me as appalling.
