The countdown to 100,000 hits

As the hit counter marches towards 100,000 hits, I’m not going to make promises like a prize for the 100,000th visitor. What began as an experiment more than 10 months ago has turned out to be a full time activity occupying a large chunk of my daily time. When I started this blog I never even dreamt of notching up a Bloglines subscriber base of more than 100. I wonder how many of them are really active. Although this blog attracts a steady stream of daily visitors, the comments have not kept up pace with the growth in the hits. This could probably be attributed to my laziness to comment in other blogs.

My initial goal was to make atleast one post per day. I think I have outgrown that target and now try to make as many posts as possible. My Bloglines addiction has grown tremendously and the number of feeds that I’m subscribed to is a shade under 1000. If there is a script which one can run to eliminate feeds that have not been updated for more than 2 months, I would be more than happy to do that as that would help me in pruning my Bloglines list.

  • Good that you will hit your 100k sooner that you hit the anniversary marker Kaps. About the comment part, don't worry, that is what happens when a blog grows popular. The comments are nowhere reflective of the actual number of visitors and I know it from first hand experience :-). Just keep at it, until you are married at least. Then other priorities may take over :-)

  • Congratulations on that 6-digit hit counter. As far as I see, comments are something you should be least worried abt since I guess your blog is viewed as more of an (HOT) information source, which leaves very little chance to debate upon - In other words, more of facts and less of opinion. Personally, I follow the feeds and have very less need to comment. :)

Abt ur bloglines list, trust me, I was dazed even looking at it!

  • Thank you for *not* announcing a prize for the 100,000th visitor. You saved me from having to look for different computers to check on your blog, just to make sure I am THE one ...

    Congratulations, Kaps!

  • Gosh, I'm the 99991 visitor ! Should have checked your site probably 30 mins later to be at 100,000. I do visit your blog 4-5 times a week coz I find you have quite similar interests seeing the articles you post except for the dose of chennai articles ( I guess you being from Chennai!).

Congrats and keep blogging ! btw, how much do you spend on blogging activity per day ? Curious.

  • Congratulations Kaps. Forget about the 10000th visitor I think I deserve a prize for being the 100033rd :)

By Blogger WA, at 5:35 PM

  • Wow ! That's quite an achievement... Way to go dude :o)

By Blogger Somu, at 6:06 PM

  • Congrats! I am guilty of increasing your page hits and not you number of comments. I check your blog atleast once a day, but as someone earlier said, this blog mainly deals with facts than opinions - which leaves little scope to comment.

    Way to go!

By Blogger janani, at 9:15 PM

  • Great going Kaps.
IMHO, since you are posting more than 1 post per day, readers get a bit distracted on which one to comment.. at least thats the resaon in my case.

    Keep rocking!!

  • Congrats on your 100K. As for pruning hopelessly outdated feeds, I suggest moving your feeds to GreatNews feed reader. But unfortunately, it is a desktop app.

  • Kaps,
Congrats, man! Me inching towards the 50000 mark!

By Anonymous Ravi, at 3:09 PM

  • Thanks everyone

Thanks for the tip on priorities. Comments are not related to the hits.....guess it has something to do with the popularity of the bloggers or the topics:-) Maybe Sania Mirza related post might draw more comments!

    @Govar, Janani and Balaji,
I do admit that my posts are mostly related to news and current affairs and there is very less opinion and hence the need to debate is lesser. Point taken. Will try and change the mix of posts if that can help.

You might get an early bird prize :-)

We can take up that question offline. Our interests do match....suggest u also start a blog. Are Chennai related article becoming an overdose?

You are the lucky one. thanks for sending me the screenshot

I don't prefer desktop feedreaders.....I'm sticking to Bloglines

Thanks for the link....which use the file soon
