Firefox yet to ignite the fire in India
Although Firefox usage has been growing globally, Indian sites seem to be largely ignorant of the fact that their sites don’t display properly when viewed through a Firefox browser. Except for few Indian sites likes The Hindu and Rediff, most of the leading news sites (Business Standard, New Indian Express, Sify) have problems when viewed through Firefox. It’s usually the special characters like currency symbols and punctuation marks that have problems. Although most Indian sites have started offering RSS feeds, I fail to understand why they are not keen on offering a Firefox-friendly website.

Not sure whether Firefox is friendly or not..
I installed it as a default browser. Whenever, I used to open a link from the mails, it failed to open in firefox.
So, now I have shifted back to Microsoft IE. Not sure, if I installed something wrongly... while downloading.

I can understand the news outlets being not too tech savvy, but Sify? Sheesh!
Can't they put together a site that complies with web standards? Is it too much to ask of them?

Its because, Microsoft tools have a lock on the developers because of its 'easy' availability...

I can tolerate such problems with portals. But what about sites like AirDeccan? The company encourages people to book tickets online, but it doesn't work with firefox - not on Linux, not on Windows. These guys may as well post the footer on their site - "Works only with Internet Explorer. We are incompetent."

Opera browser is much better than firefox and is much faster and more compatible with most sites than firefox. I suggest all people who are dissatisfied with firefox try out Opera. Mostly you wont regret it

I have been using Mozilla Firefox for ages and never faced any problems. Even on the airdeccan site!

@Ram,
I'm not sure of the reason for this problem. But if you are a voracious reader you should reconsider Firefox
@News from prasanna,
will try it out
@Abi,
Even I can't believe that Sify has such low standards
@Ram Viswanathan,
Can't agree more
@Shashikant,
looks like customers of Air Deccan don't have any other choice.
@Redrajesh,
I have used Opera occasionally...will try it out
@Veda,
even I use IE for reading Tamil blogs
@Ambimama,
Firefox is generally good, but still not perfect. This doesn't mean that people should revert back to IE.
