Conflict of Interest and the Media-Politics Nexus

It is public knowledge that BSNL has been going crazy on their adspend on various media forms (TV, FM, Newspapers) controlled by Dayanidhi Maran’s family. This is clear conflict of interest and I’m not sure what kind of control mechanisms are in place to monitor such spending. On a related note, it has also been pointed out that the TN Government has been spending a lot on media forms associated with ADMK (Jaya TV, Namathu MGR). It would be interesting to see the outcome of these petitions.

  • The media connection with political parties has been pretty well known. I do not watch much of Tamil channels. From what you are saying, it sounds like corporations are advertising with some selected media for some vested benefits. #$%^&@@!!
Also - the views aired by each media channel has its own flavor, favorable to a certain political party. I have always thought NDTV is very pro-congress. After awarding the "Indian of the Year" award to Sonia Gandhi, that belief got confirmed.
