Sharath Does India Proud
After playing a pivotal role in India’s victory in the group event in Table Tennis, Sharath Kamal finished off the Commonwealth Games in style with his splendid victory in the Men’s Singles Final. He’s just 24 and I’m sure he’ll bring many more laurels to the country.
Update: News Today has some reactions from yesteryear stalwarts.
The Hindu speaks to Sharath Kamal's dad-cum-coach.

Totally agree. I managed to see part of the final match live on television. In the group event, when Sharath played that key match, it was amazing to see him transform into a pumped up aggressive player. Quite unlike his usual style.
Isn't this India's first Commonwealth singles gold for TT? Or has Chetan won it earlier?

Echo,
This is India's first Commonwealth gold in the Singles event of TT. Chetan Baboor has made it to the finals before.
Sharath had won the Commonweath TT Championship (not to be confused with the regular Commonwealth Games) back in 2004.

It is a great achievement by Sharath Kamal. I might have contributed to the confusion by mentioning he is the defending commonwealth champion. It doesn't matter now as he has won both :)

@Mr. Pissed,
The shooters and weight lifters performed really well. I don't have access to DD and hence was not able to watch it.
@SLN,
No probs man....the interest levels in TT are quite low and I was happy that people know about Sharath Kamal.
