Chennai Chronicle, the city supplement of
Deccan Chronicle has a feature on
how bloggers are tracking the TN Polls (Thanks to
Vijay Krishna for the tip). This article is quite identical to the earlier
DNA article that
I had linked to. The only difference in the
DC article is a reference to my recent post-titled
“Going Rates”. Divya Subramanian of DC goes on to say that my post was inflammatory. I wonder whether the offensive words used in my blog’s title had anything to do with DC terming my post as inflammatory.
One inflammatory blog posted by a certain Sambhar Mafia - Cooked To Kill!, spoke about the going rates for film stars like Sarath Kumar, Radhika, Simran and Kamal Haasan to campaign for Amma. A certain ‘informed’ blogger claims that Vaiko got Rs 40 crore and the whole Sarath Kumar, Selvi and Thaka Thaka Thaka Thaka Thanga Vettai package was ‘sold’ for Rs 20 crore.
A certain Dreamchaser aka Embezzlers posted some additional details as well, saying “Simran was offered 2 crore initially and was promised 25 lakh for every talk she makes on the stage around Chennai and Tamil Nadu. She recently made one in Tambaram (Chennai), just think about 10 speeches a month, which would fetch her Rs 2.5 crore.”
All I have done is collate rumours that have been doing the rounds in various forms of media (Internet,
Junior Vikatan,
Kumudham Reporter,
Nakheeran etc) and present it as a blog post. This is what those magazines have been doing for a living. Just try to compare the reach of the Tamil investigative magazines and this poor blog. I leave it for you to decide as to which one is more inflammatory.
Update: Dreamchaser has images of the article
here.

"...This is what those magazines have been doing for a living..."
This is what the DC reporter is also doing - by pulling out blog posts and interpreting in her own way. May be, she is trying to make her article a hot one, with inflammatory contents :-) :-) :-)

Kaps, as I told you, Divya Subramanian first needs to be told what the difference between a blog and a post it.
Also, this copy-paste from DNA reminds me of how one of Rashmi Bansal's blog posts had been published by a Bombay newspaper under the "Letters to the Editor" column. Maybe DC and DNA have an arrangement. Or maybe, Divya "internalized" the DC article so much that she produced it verbatim (ref: Kaavya Viswanathan '08)

While on the topic of going rates... here are the rates in Thiruvannamalai from an ex-colleague:
ADMK is giving away oru pavunu Gold per vote.
DMK is giving raw cash. Rs. 500 per vote.
Here too, they have their targets specified; Lady votes and instant gratificationers aka Male?

Wohaa... I am late, but this again a excellent news/post from Kaps!
Thanks Kaps, you made my Nickname come over @ papers! I really missed this article, due to my busy schedule in examinatoons!
Sambhar Mafia cooks hot!!! Woha.. I am so happy my Nick came in news paper! But we are wise someway, as we never post blogs, comments in Real Name rather than Nick, which saves me from few problems.
Thanks again for the excellent update of the day! Feeling as if I am on 9th Cloud! I have get a copy of DC 2morrow hahaha !
Also checkout the news copy of the article @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dreampics/tags/blog/ !!

I think it is the title - Sambhar MAFIA, that made them write such things. People tend to associate Mafia in the violent context, so, naturally, you become the baddie :) But seriously, this is the last thing that MSM can do to bloggers - call them "inflammatory".
