ARR on IBN Live

The transcript of ARR’s interview is available now.

Rajeev Masand: Have you ever been embarrassed by the way a song has been filmed?
A R Rahman: Yes, a lot of times. But, I guess the people are intelligent enough now to know all that, what is personal and what is not, and what is done for the movie.

Rajeev Masand: You won’t take any names?
A R Rahman: No.

Hope S J Surya gets the message.

  • What Mr.ARR says is correct. But i do think, there is no point in cribbing over an issue, in which he doesnt have the necessary expertise.

As such, a film musician, is COMMISSIONED to compose tunes, conduct the orchestration and deliver what is expected of him. Nothing more or less. Not always, Mr.ARR could get a chance to work with a film maker who can match his calibre. Such is Indian film industry.

The landmark songs by IR in 70's and 80s are best, when listened to and gives an instant 'uvvek' when u see it on screen. what to do? can any one sleep that night after seeing 'the ever homely' sumithra in bellbottoms putting 'dappanguththu' for one of IR's best composition? or has he any idea on how the masterpiece 'chinna kaNNan azhaikkiRan' has been picturised?

Mr.ARR is expected to know the creative limitations of the film makers he work with. While i agree, that he has every right to comment on the picturisation of his song, i dont think he is fair when he make comments with a 'i-am-superstar-these-ppl-dumbos' tone.

and yes, i am intelligent enough to know that Mr.ARR is not happy with the way 'his' songs are picturised and he is an "ALL IN ALL AZHAGHU RAJA' who should have born in amerika and not the subbarayan street, T Nagar.

  • Yeah, Its very important that the songs are filmed right. Just like how the singer should show the 'Bhavam'.

One of my favorite songs ..is 'Konjum mynakkalae' from kandukonden. Rajiv Menon did a lot of justice to that amazing song.!

  • SJ Surya?

Come on guys. He may catch the second place.

But first place is for Bharathiraja.

He murdered and butchered a stunner of a song in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei-Theekuruvi..

  • Arr has every rite to comment on picturization as he plays vital role on songs composed by him (of course not on re-recording...lol) and during 90's few of his albums made record sales and one of de MAIN reasons would be Arr...unlike Raaja sir...during 70's, 80's and early 90's, if any his album made record sales then ONLY reason should be Raaja sir...expect for Rajini and kamal's movie...

One more thing, as rahy said i dont think rehman ji comments with the tone of bossing since, everybody knew he is a polite man....object of ridicule :-/

I think you are talking about the composer who said as I am a muslim, how can I compose a hindu song..??? Iyyappa song for Boys, which was composed by pravin mani :( DUH?

I wish you have seen his early days interviews wherein he said "Youngsters started listening to music after my arrival" (he said it in Sun Tv and Raj tv as well after the movie - minsara kanavu was released)...So he meant tat Youngsters never listened to music before his arrival??? eh?

improve your thoughts buddy dont circle ur self...DUH?
