Maran-gate: New Indian Express keeps up the pressure

Dayanidhi Maran’s defamation suit generating machine should have created one for Gurumurthy by now:

Yes, it is Maran, the Minister, who grants licenses to Marans the Promoters of Sun TV and it is he who delays and denies them to those who compete with his business and who he is not inclined to. The functions of Maran the Minister and the interests of Marans the Sun TV promoters seem harmonious. The conflict is only between his function as the Minister and the interests of the public. In short the Telecom Ministry is run by Dayanidhi Maran for Sun TV and against those who are not for Sun TV.

  • I have always enjoyed Gurumurthy's articles in the Indian Express. He has a crisp way of getting his point across.

    Its true what he says abt the Maran family....there is a risk of monopoly. Already Sun TV is feeding us stuff that favours only DMK, other events however important dont figure in their definition of "News".

  • Surprisingly the ministry of Commerce held by the senior Maran who made India proud at the WTO meet in Doha was abandoned by his family. Sentimentally, Dayanidhi should have insisted on his portfolio.

  • Please don't confuse The Indian Express with the New Indian Express. Gurumurthy is not published in the OLD Indian Express. Neither has the Maran story appeared in its pages at least in Mumbai.

  • About the Maran thing, big deal man. It's prevelent at all levels and at all places. Why single him out?

    If you must do him in, do it on his initiative to add suffix's to all the Indian domain names. He's talks abt globalization all the time and yet belives in singular identification.

    good point. and we need bold people like gurumurthy who are not scared to take on the establishment (read admk and dmk).

    what Sun TV shows is it's own business, the people are in the best position to determine whether they want to buy what SUN TV says or not. However, being a minister, Maran needs to put national interest above everything else.

    Irrespective of the outcome of the assembly elections, Maran would continue to be the cabinet minister and would give a tough time to jaya and raj tv.

    The Ministry of commerce & industry might not be that lucrative anymore :-) Murasoli Maran was much higher in stature compared to Dayanidhi.

    Point taken. still lot of people tend to confuse between NIE and IE. Do NIE and IE have some sort of content sharing agreement? I normally see some common article in IE and NIE (and these were not sourced from AFP / PTI / UNI / Reuters etc)

    I don't think the conflict of interest is so evident in other ministries (atleast when the minister takes charges). Promoting the .in domain was not the right step. I hope he has realized that now. Only the government agencies and Sun network have gone in for .in domain.
