Time 100: The People Who Shape Our World

Time has come out with its list of 100 people who are transforming this world. As always, the list is divided into various categories. Two Indians figure in the list. The first one is Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani. They couldn’t have got somebody better than Thomas ‘Flat’ Friedman to write about Infosys. The second Indian to figure in the list is Vikram Akula. Vikram helps rural poor in the microfinance space. I might be ignorant here, but I have heard very little about Vikram in the Indian media.

Some of the new-age celebrities who have made it to the list include:

Steven Levitt of Freakonomics fame
The Flickr Founders
Myspace Duo
The Skype Guys

  • This post and the one below it have something in common. Going by the number of parties and candidates who promise gifts in view of the upcoming elections in TN surely a list called "Tam 100 : The people who shaped our fortunes" can be put together for all to see.

  • @Anand,
    Is it even worth compiling that list? Maybe it should be titled: "The people who stole our fortunes" :-)

  • Flickr/ My Space /Skype - interesting to note that all were small office start-ups, and are now transforming this world in such a short span. (Less than five years old, if I'm not much mistaken).

  • @Govar,
    I think they need to feature some popular author every year. it was malcolm gladwell last year and steven levitt this year.

    @Krithiga,
    the 3 companies have been around only for 2/3 years.

  • Wondering (aloud) that teams of 2 people founding a company are making it big in recent times. What say? Google is one such example!
