You May Not Watch Doordarshan……
……but you still need to pay for it. If this move gets the govt. nod, India will join the club that has members like Singapore and Britain.

At least the BBC is worth watching.

oh yes...bbc makes me want to re-think the notion of television being the 'idiot box'...dont know about content in singapore but india has miles to go...even most of the satellite channels there dish out trash!

Paying for TV in the UK is a joke. They claim that the tax is for an uninterrupted view of programmes. While some of the 5 main channels do have tonnes of commercial advertising, the BBC has a tonne of ads tooting the horn for its own programming. Daylight robbery I say. I would rather watch commercial ads which are far more interesting and not pay the £100 as a TV licence.

Doordarshan is a white elephant. BBC offers programming arguably of a high quality. yes the licence fee is not a modest amount though it can be paid in monthly installments. Advertising in the UK is not memorable as that in India, save a few ads.
Doordarshan's wide reach can be used for worthy purposes.

@Antrix,
very true
@Reshma,
content in singapore is just ok....nothing gr8. bbc would be the best.
@30in2005,
maybe they should reword it as no external ads.
@Rajesh,
enforcing at the time or purchase is discriminatory. let's see what thatha does.
@Anand,
DD is a powerful medium and the government has not realized its full potential. I'm sure there wud be ways to keep it free and run it profitably.
