Poli Wars in West Mambalam

Captured the following images during my visit to Chennai last week. Venkatramana and Venkateshwara Boli Stall are the two popular outlets in Thambiah Reddy Road (West Mambalam). The former has been around for a longer period and the latter seems to be attracting more crowd (possibly due to the location?). The first picture didn't come out well.

Another trend is the usage of the word / font of "Hot Chips" in neighbourhood snack shops.

  • Oh and the number of people that queue up buy in the evenings is incredible. There is almost a traffice jam. When they started off, these boli stalls, they were really a novel thingy for west mambalam.

  • @Sowmya,
    The traffic opposite SRM Hospital is really bad. Comparatively, the traffic near Venkatnarayana Boli Stall is much better.

    @Hawkeye,
    agree with u. The former shop is definitely of better quality, but the latter has scored in branding and location.

    @Eshwar,
    now that i'm back, posts would flow thick and fast.

  • Kaps, came here to see what your view is on the blog-ban. Looks like you are having a fun vacation. I'll come back later for that.:-)

  • @Sowmya,
    I'm back from vacation but am too lazy to post about the ban. i missed the bus.

    @Prasanna,
    the Hot Chips mention was just to draw attention and not to praise their food. Do you stay in West Mambalam by any chance?

  • They are great places to have good food. It gets crowded, but i guess it is worth the wait.

  • from what i know,people assumed the venkatramana stall was just a sister concern of the original venkatnarayana one...something like what saravana bhavan hsa done in ashok nagar...the modern ambience and the location did the rest i guess..:)

  • hehe...sorry name confusion...i meant people assumed venkateswara to be a sister concern of the original venkatramana..:)

  • Hi Sowmya,

    Do you also sing? If not, you can commence taking music lessons because you have to do justice to that name you wear!!! Anyway, I cut simply a joke. Bear with me.

    That Venkataramana Poli Stall, I mean, the old established one, is an ideal shop. That taste suits to my tongue as it does to many others because people flock over there like birds. The photographer has not put that water bottle or can outside the shop in the righthand corner and that would have given a good recapitulation.

    Whenever I come back to Mambalam from US, my first duty is to make a first visit to that shop because those items are good and secondly in the evenings at home that serves as a good snack to all family members.
