Sambhar Mafia - Cooked To Kill!

Guess Who?

It shouldn't be too difficult to guess as she's all over the news.

My Chennai neighbour told me earlier (about 5 years ago) that she joined Mettur Beardsell (remember Igloo hot packs?) from campus and was his colleague at that time. The only thing he could recollect was that she used to bring curd rice for lunch most of the time. She must have figured out that curd rice and Pepsi form an impressive combination :-)

Commenting on the developments, SAJA goes on to coin the word Madras Mondays as a result of the Madras related news flow in the last 10 days.

Related Reading: A dated piece in Madras Miscellany which talks about her roots.

  • Incredible Man !!! this sweet homely looking 1960s/70s style South Indian Woman is the CEO of Pepsi... Not even the best fortune tellers could have forecasted that this lady would lead the World's biggest Food Company ...

  • //she used to bring curd rice for lunch most of the time. //

    :-)

    //The only note in all that I've heard and read about the three that struck me as sad was Indra Nooyi's, "I have come to this country. I am simply scared to drink water. I think drinking Pepsi and Miranda is much safer." For someone brought up on the water of T.Nagar and whose foundations were laid in this city over many years, being at the top at Pepsi doesn't warrant a bit of Marie Antoinetteishness.

  • @madman ...

    yes i stand corrected. Pepsi is not largest World Food company ,maybe one of the fastest growing ones.

    @Others

    I dont think that Indira's concerns of our drinking water are "Marie Antoneittie-ish"... it is a sad truth that we(India) lead the world in occurence/recurrence of all kinds of water borne diseases .Whatever maybe their sins, Pepsi and Coke are not responsible for this.

  • Hearty Congratulations to Indra Nooyi. It is an incredible achievement. However, I remember a school-topper same age South Indian boy who got admitted to IIMA and IIMC twice (in 1976 and 1982) but had to give them up BOTH times.....the first time due to his father's death and the second time due to a horrific accident. He had the potential, but God thought it fit to deny him the opportunity. He now languishes as a professor. I see this middle-aged boy every morning while shaving!
