Payback Time?
‘‘After receiving so much of welfare measures, what would you give to the thalaivar (Karunanidhi) in return ?...do not be satisfied with just expressing your goodwill in words... your conscience should work during the ensuing elections to the local bodies (ungal manasatchi varum ullatchi therthalil velai seyya vendum)’’, Dayanidhi Maran said.
Maran, more or less, confirmed that no proper enumeration of families without televisions had been done before the launch of the scheme, and that at least some families which already had television were also included among the beneficiaries.
‘‘When we passed through some areas in the colony, I saw cable (TV) connections here and there...but colour television sets will be given to all 2,745 families residing in this area’’, the Union Minister assured. (Source: New Indian Express, Link not available)
I expect nothing from you for implementing these schemes. It is enough if you follow the ideals of our great leaders Periyar and Anna (DMK founder C N Annadurai). We should strive to create a society with rationalist ideals and without caste differences.

Nothing wrong at all !
Given the magnitude of snobbery rubbishing and economic criticism for the scheme...

wasnt the tv supposed to be payback to the ppl for voting dmk to power -- part of election manifesto? how come dayanadhi maran conveniently forgets this fact?

@RaajK,
The economic criticism is because the DMK could use the Rs. 750 in better ways which could actually improve the living standards of these people.
@CM,
Dayanidhi Maran would still remember it, it's the people who have forgotten.
@Eshwar,
couldn't agree more. Maran is clearly projecting himself as the successor to the throne.

Hmm....certainly a comment that was unwarranted from any angle. No one demanded TV's when they voted. And the DMK unashamedly expects a lifetime of unreserved loyalty for merely living up to its "promise"? Pettiness exemplified!
Certainly does change my view of Dayanidhi Maran as a politician. Am wondering if I need to strip him off my list.

Madras is witnessing an epidemic called chickungunya. Rather than solving this crisis these guyz are distributing 750 crores of TV.
what a shame!

Looks like our "Grandnephew" wants to give serious competition to the "Son(s)"... only time will tell if these TV sets show the "Grandnephew", or the "Son" or maybe both !!!!

every man, woman and child in TN needs a TV. and dayanidhi maran's mug needs to be seen by them all in sun-tv prime news. after that, over to serials and a bit of thigh-shaking for the octagenarian CM.
