SBI at the receiving end, but no surprises
When the SBI Debit Card Campaign ("Welcome to a Cashless World") was launched earlier this year, it evoked some strong responses from the blogosphere. Although the damage has already been done, the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has directed SBI to stop using the commercial.
The visual of the ad made by Mudra Communications, depicted Bholu, an ex-pickpocket going through various stages of vigorous hard work and having dry pieces of bun at the end of the day with a sad look on his face. The punch line in the TVC says, "Welcome to State Bank Debit Card, welcome to a cashless world." The complaint made that the ad by implication tends to incite people to commit crime by conveying that the advantage of being a pickpocket far outweighs the hardships of physical work.

I got my credit card from SBI in November, 2006.
Then, it charged like the following:
09/12/2006 EASY MONEY DRAFT FEE 167.24 D
17/12/2006 INSURANCE ADMINISTRATION CHARGE 22.45 D
17/12/2006 PROTECT PLUS INSURANCE CREDIT SHIELD PR 9.81 D
17/12/2006 PROTECT PLUS INSURANCE PA PREMIUM-6 LACS 26.94 D
04/12/2006 ROYAL SUNDARAM ALLIANC CHENNAI IN 2191.00 D
09/12/2006 DRAFT FOR EASY MONEY 6000.00 D
12/12/2006 Medisafe Admin Fee SBI cards 390.00 D
My outstanding balance was Rs.8807.44 on December 17, 2006 without
using SBI card. Now, it is around Rs 15000 with bogus charges. They did
not send bill for first 4 months. My last bill is full of fraud charges.
Mr. Ajay Bharti, VP, Customer service SBI is not helpful at all.
He prefers cancellation of SBI cards rather than reversing the bogus
charges. Come on for a mass cancellation of SBI CARDS.
You are not secure as long as SBI credit card with you.
Please inform the same to your Friends and relatives..
DROP FOUR PIECES OF SBI CREDIT CARD IN SBI ATM COUNTER.
