The Musician's Way of Torturing Tamil

The title track from the movie Vallavan is one of my current favourites. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored quite well for this movie and that is quite evident by seeing the frequent requests for Loosu Penne song and the Vallava song on popular music channels and FM channels. Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice for the title track is equally captivating.

Unlike Shreya Ghoshal and Sadhana Sargam, Sunidhi Chauhan hasn’t sung that many Tamil songs. A glaring error in the pronounciation is the only drawback that one can think of. Sunidhi pronounces the word உள்ளம (uLLam) as உல்லம (ullam) and this has been overlooked by the music director and the lyricist. IMHO, Yuvan himself has lot of difficulties pronouncing Tamil words and it is no surprise that he forgot to spot this mistake.

  • Very truy Kaps. ARR, Yuvan all belong to the same groove. Since they themselves do not pronounce Tamil well, over looking such errors is no wonder. Sad state isn't it when listening to the flawless pronounciationg of yester year singers (ofcourse we do have a few even now though).

  • probably we can ask kalaingar to have an eye on this issue...

he can refer this as well to Censor board, now that there is a good respone for his tamil titles rules...

the only issue, he may hv to give some more concessions!!!

  • like somebody said - its considered 'cool' to talk tamil that way.
moreover, i personally know dozens of tamils themselves who have a problem with their pronunciations

  • you are correct..musicians way of killing tamil is payangaram. recently i heared one online tamil radio shyamradio.com with very nice tamil literary songs in the late night in this part of US..their online tv shyamtv.com is also webcasting nice Bharathiar songs with grasping visuals. with such kind of efforts tamil will never die in the hands of musicians
